Escape the Heat with a Kayaking and Swimming Adventure
at the Hidden Gem Spring Pool of Khao Yai
The Spring Pool, or Bo Nam Phut at Ban Tha Chang, is one of Khao Yai’s lesser-known attractions—an “unseen” destination that many may not have experienced yet. However, thanks to the power of social media, the beauty of this natural spring has gained widespread recognition, quickly becoming one of the most popular spots in the area. Local businesses and eateries have flourished, and the site is now well-managed by the Ban Tha Chang Community Enterprise (OTOP Khao Yai) in Moo Si Subdistrict, Pak Chong District.
Today, the Spring Pool has become one of the must-visit places everyone is talking about.
What makes this spring so magical is its perennial flow. The pool is always full, with crystal-clear turquoise water that looks like glass. This is due to the natural filtration process through gravel and stones rich in calcium carbonate, which gives the water its remarkable clarity and hue.
Beyond cooling off in the refreshing water, visitors can enjoy kayaking services provided by the Ban Tha Chang Community Enterprise OTOP Khao Yai as well as private operators. Prices vary: 100 THB per person for the short route, and 170 THB per person for the longer one. Guests can paddle the short route on their own, while the long route includes a guide. Along the way, the lush scenery is filled with diverse flora, and if you're lucky, you may spot rare wildlife like the elusive Takon (a local iguana-like species), hornbills, Indian rollers, or even hawks.
Khun Tui—Narumol Saensuriyadecha, a committee member of the Ban Tha Chang Community Enterprise—shared that this area was once undeveloped. “We started working on it in 2019, the same year we introduced the kayaks. Then we began promoting the site. The community enterprise worked together with the locals of Ban Tha Chang to build a strong and united community. Nowadays, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and several universities in Nakhon Ratchasima province are collaborating with us to promote tourism and help manage the community enterprise. Each year, we receive several study visits from different groups.”
“This spring has been here since long ago. We’ve lived here for 40 years, and it’s always been here. Elders in the village remember it well. The first pool is off-limits for recreation, as we pump the water for use in the village’s water supply. The other pools have never dried up. The water is always blue and clear, though on days when many people come to swim, it may become murky due to disturbed sediment. But by night, it settles, and by morning, the water becomes clear again, glowing blue under the sunlight.”
The best time to visit, according to Khun Tui, is from the end of the rainy season until April. The rainy months—May through August—are not ideal, as runoff from the nearby national park may flood the spring, turning the water muddy. April, however, is perfect for families looking to cool off and enjoy nature together.
This spot is undeniably one of the most beautiful check-in points in Khao Yai—an experience you simply shouldn’t miss.
